Mayor Simon Yu has been an active member of the Prince George community for nearly 50
years and is the city’s first Chinese Mayor, currently serving his first term since 2022. A
professional engineer, he previously ran a successful consulting business and taught
engineering at the College of New Caledonia.

Mayor Yu has held leadership roles as Director for the University of Northern British
Columbia and the Prince George Airport Authority and was a founding committee member
of the Woodwords Initiative. He also led the Asia Post-Tsunami Housing Relief Effort in
2003, contributing to international humanitarian recovery.

In recognition of his lifelong dedication to community, public service, and the betterment of
Canadian society, Mayor Yu was recently awarded the Senator Victor Oh Legacy Award.

He is passionate about public safety, addressing homelessness, and creating a long-term
vision for sustainable growth. He is proud to support the Canadian Armed Forces and the
Rocky Mountain Rangers as they build the next generation of leaders.
